A MALDON primary school has maintained its high standards, according to a report by Ofsted inspectors.

Wentworth Primary School was visited by the education watchdog at the beginning of March.

The school maintained its good ratings in every area, with inspectors praising pupils' enthusiastic behaviour and their willingness to "strive for excellence".

Headteacher Dawn Dack said: "We are delighted that the hard work of our pupils, staff and governors has been recognised."

The report said: "Pupils are incredibly proud to attend Wentworth Primary School. They know and understand their school rules to ‘be kind, be safe and be responsible’.

"Pupils work hard in lessons to ensure they are striving for excellence. This attitude helps them to achieve well and reach the high expectations that staff have of them.

The Viking Road school was praised for giving numerous opportunities for students to develop.

The report says: "Pupils have numerous learning opportunities within and outside the broad curriculum they learn in school. Trips, visitors and events, for example Viking Days, add to what pupils learn in lessons."

Pupils' behaviour was also praised, with bullying rare and quickly dealt with.

"Pupils behave well during lessons and when on the school playground. They look after each other and include each other in the games they play," the report says. 

"Bullying is very rare. Should it happen, staff are quick to deal with it. Pupils are happy and safe at school."
