A POPULAR pizza chain has officially opened its doors to customers in Maldon town centre.

Dough and Co has opened its 10th restaurant in the High Street creating 10 jobs.

Due to restrictions at the restaurant, the business has been unable to install a wood-fired oven at the premises.

A gas oven will be used to cook pizzas instead.

The restaurant also serves burgers and the menu will be the same as other existing Dough and Co restaurants.

The menu includes fresh pizzas, pasta, flatbread, salads and burgers.

Operations director Przemek Kostrzewa, for the Dough and Co and Burger Amour Group, said: “It has taken two months of preparation and we are now ready to open.

“Maldon is a really nice town – I live in Witham and visit Maldon every few weeks.

“We are really happy to open a restaurant in Maldon, especially during these times when a lot of businesses are struggling.

“We predict the weekends will be busy with people coming to the town.”

He added: “The layout is different to others as there are some differences to other sites.

“We are very famous because of the wood-fired ovens. Unfortunately in Maldon we are unable to fit a wood-fired oven so we have a gas oven.

“We serve Napoli-style pizza with a nice crust and the quality will remain the same despite the difference in cooking.

“The cheese is imported from Italy every week.

“I know people from Maldon don’t have this kind of pizza here so I am excited to show the people this kind of pizza.

“Dough and Co support other small businesses and we have some suppliers from Suffolk and a supplier in Ipswich.

“We are trying to network with other smaller businesses for the future too.”
