MALDON made it three wins from three games courtesy of an emphatic win on Saturday.

Batting first at Drapers Farm, Reece O'Connell (34) and the omnipresent Jimmy Ainscough (60) started well with an opening stand of 77.

However, a change of bowling from Lakenheath pegged Maldon back to 112 for four and a chance to attack Maldon's middle order.

The game swung back in Maldon's favour, with a fine stand of 89 between Western Australian Matt Anderson (54) and skipper Chris Harris (56). Anderson departed, but Harris, playing in the middle order instead of opening this week, guided his team to an imposing total.

In reply, Lakenheath were rocked by the bowling of Anderson (three for 15) and Gary Bannister (two for seven) to reduce the visitors to 29 for six.

There was no way back for Lakenheath and it was left to Ian Elliott (four for 14) to complete Lakenheath's miserable afternoon.

This win keeps Maldon at the top of the table alongside Elmstead, their next opponents on Saturday, in what will prove to be an important fixture.

Great Bromley 195-6

Maldon II 197-0

division five

MALDON's first win this season came in emphatic style at Great Bromley on Saturday.

Bowling first, their bowlers restricted Great Bromley's openers in the early stages.

Harry Breed (one for 35) struck the first blow to leave the hosts at 55 for one.

Further economical bowling from Chris Huntington (two for 27) ensured Great Bromley did not accelerate their innings.

Two further wickets from Michael Foster (two for 71) at the end of the innings stopped Great Bromley reaching the 200-mark.

In reply, Chris Huntington immediately went on the offensive, bringing up his individual 50 in the seventh over.

Huntington continued in this vein when he brought up his hundred in the 15th over.

Ross Walpole (43) provided solid support at the other end.

Both were determined to chase the runs down on their own and duly did so, winning with 20 overs to spare.

Huntington finished an extraordinary innings full of strokes all round the wicket unbeaten on 143.

Maldon will be buoyed with confidence going into their next game against Nacton on Saturday.

Maldon III 166-6

Elveden 107-10

MALDON began their season with a win at Promenade Park on Saturday.

Batting first, Sandy Grant (25) helped them through to the halfway stage in good shape.

However, once he and skipper Michael Smith (19) departed, Maldon were wobbling at 71 for five.

Maldon's innings required a partnership to get back into the match, which was duly supplied by youngster Dan Allen (32) and Kritik Patel (32).

With sensible shot selection and excellent running between the wicket, these two put on 62 valuable runs for the sixth wicket.

In reply, Jack Plumb (two for 18) struck immediately to boost Maldon's chances.

The introduction of Dave Richardson (seven for 24) was pivotal, as he showcased an exhibition of spin bowling to run riot through the Elveden ranks. Richardson bamboozled Elveden, bowling six batsmen in the process.

Maldon ran out comfortable winners and will look for another win when they travel to Sudbourne Hill, near Orford, Suffolk, on Saturday.
