IN breezy, cool conditions, 28 Five Lakes seniors contested the Seniors Callinan Crystal Competition.

This event, played on the Lakes course, is a Stableford Handicap qualifying competition in which individual points count towards the continuing Seniors’ Order of Merit.

Playing conditions were fairly benign with fast greens resulting in more than half the field returning very respectable stableford scores of 30 points and better with Seniors Captain Richard Taylor playing a starring role and claiming first place on countback from Barry Turner.

Results: 1 Richard Taylor 38 pts ocb, 2 Barry Turner 38 pts, 3 David Swain 37 pts ocb, 4 Ron Colbert 37 pts, 5 Ash Patel 36 pts, 6 Tony Tyler 34 pts ocb, 7 Tony Bermingham 34 pts.

Tony Tyler won the nearest the pin at the fourth hole and John Saunders at the 16th hole.

In glorious sunshine, captain Roger Hyman and ex-lady captain Julie Dent took first place honours in Saturday’s Gemini Cup.

The Greensomes competition, played on the Lakes course, attracted a strong field but the Hyman/Dent combination prevailed over the challenge from Nancy Seabrook and Clive Jenner who took second place, with Sue Butterworth and Andy Lee in third.
