A SMALL contingent of Blackwater Tri juniors travelled to Writtle College for the Discovery Triathlon races.
Unlike most junior races, the swim leg of this event is open water, in a lake rather than a swimming pool, so the athletes have the added complication of having to remove their wetsuit before heading out on their bike leg.
In the youth category, Blackwater were represented by Tom Rehal who, after a tough swim leg, fought his way back through the field over the bike and run sections to finish fifth.
In TS2, the club had Alex Little, who continued a strong season's racing, finishing in ninth place.
In TS1, Rebecca Wells was competing in her first open water event.
All her hard work in training paid off and she was rewarded with a third-place finish.
Two of the junior coaching team were racing in the adult aquathon race, which was held before the start of the junior races. Katy Rehal had a strong race to finish seventh in the ladies and James Haskey-Jones finished second.
