THE Burnham on Crouch ladies’ Mail on Sunday team were determined to do as well as the men and so were happy to draw Three Rivers at home on a windy day.

When it came to announcing the teams and playing order Burnham found they had to give 40 shots.

Avis Greenaway, out first, had to give ten shots and lost 3&2.

Viv Locke, with 12 shots to give, did her best but lost 2&4.

Meanwhile, further back on the course, Liz Clark was having a storming round and finished early 7&6, even though she had to give eight shots.

Sue Frost, giving five shots, was having a nip and tuck game with the Three Rivers captain Ruth Collins and they seem to determined to play the whole course.

Claire Lewis at the back, and giving five shots, was also having a good round and won 6&5.

With it two all, Frost and Collins took it to the last hole where they halved the match.

This meant that the match would now be decided on sudden death played by Leila Scobie for Three Rivers and Claire Lewis for Burnham.

Nerves seemed to attack both of them up the first and they halved the hole.

Then Claire Lewis pulled out the stops and was on the second green for two and Scobie could not match this and so Burnham took the win.

The men played their February Stableford on Saturday in very strong winds.
