BRIGHTLINGSEA Regent secured a good victory away at Bury Town.

The visitors took all three points with a 1-0 Ryman League division north win on Tuesday night.

Bury Town keeper Neil O’Sullivan was lucky to stay on the pitch after a feet first challenge was only punished with a yellow card on three minutes.

The home side’s Noel Aitkens then went close with a shot that just cleared the bar.

But O’Sullivan was called into action to dive on a dangerous cross into the box soon after.

Bury were awarded a free-kick when Ollie Canfer was fouled and Barber’s attempt just went over the bar on 42 minutes.

After the break, it was the visitors who gained the upper hand when a poor clearance from James Paterson deflected off Luke Read and into the back of the net on 48 minutes.

Witham Town fell to a 2-0 defeat at Great Wakering Rovers.

Rovers took the lead on 75 minutes through Jake Gordon.

They doubled their advantage on 86 minutes thanks to Jacob Cleaver.

Heybridge Swifts bounced back from their 8-1 mauling by Cheshunt at the weekend with a 2-0 win against visiting Aveley.

Good work from Jack Barham and Sherwin Stanley set up Lewis Godbold to tap home and give Heybridge the lead on 14 minutes.

Swifts then had another two good chances when David Hutton hit the inside of the post and it was gratefully scooped up by Aveley keeper James Marrable.

And Marrable was called on to make another good save, this time from Barham.

Liam Nash then had a chance for the visitors but his effort went wide.

Marrable then made an excellent save to deny Stanley.

Aveley then had a shout for a penalty when Abs Seymour went down but the referee waved the appeals away.

Taylor Hastings then made it 2-0 for Swifts on 66 minutes with a 25-yard strike into the top corner.

It was almost 3-0 when Jack Humphery’s deflected effort hit the post two minutes later.

The woodwork came to Aveley’s rescue again when Rafael Duyile’s shot hit the post on 88 minutes.

Aveley had a chance to pull a goal back, however, when they were awarded a penalty for handball.

But Arian Retkoceri’s effort was saved and the rebound was fired over the bar on 90 minutes.

Maldon and Tiptree fell to a 3-2 defeat at Redbridge.

The home side took the lead on 34 minutes when Joe Gent was on target.

But Femi Akinwande equalised for the Jammers just before half-time after a defensive clearance saw the ball land at his feet and he hit home from 25 yards.

And the Jammers took the lead when Darren Mills made it 2-1 with a left-footed volley from 12 yards on 50 minutes.

However, Maldon’s Lewis Probert then gave away a penalty and Jay Knight levelled from the spot on 60 minutes.

Three minutes later Knight gave Redbridge the lead with a header after some slack defending.
