MALDON and Tiptree manager David Wright doesn’t want to get drawn into a battle with Cheshunt at the weekend.

The Jammers were due to travel to Cheshunt on Tuesday night but both sides were without a fixture on Saturday due to their opposition being involved in the FA Cup.

Wright’s side go into the game on the back of a 3-1 victory against Romford at Park Drive last weekend.

The Jammers boss was pleased with the display which sets them up for a quick return match with Saturday’s hosts.

The two teams fought out a 3-3 Ryman League division north draw when they met last month and Wright is prepared for what Cheshunt might throw at them.

Wright said: “Cheshunt contacted us about moving the game to Saturday and we were happy to do it.

“It gives us more time to prepare and not a rush on a Tuesday night.

“We only played them a couple of weeks ago and it’s a quick turnaround.

“They are a strong, physical side.

“They play quality balls into the box and we have to be ready for them.

“We have to stand up to them but when we get our chance to play then we have to take it.”

Wright wants his side to play their own game and not be dragged into a style of football that will suit their opposition.

He added: “We don’t want to get dragged into a battle with them.

“We can go toe-to-toe with them but we want to play the style of football that suits us.”
