MALDON & TIPTREE chairman Ed Garty wants his club’s next manager to be a long-term appointment rather than a “quick fix”.

The Park Drive side are on the look-out for a new boss after parting company with Terry Spillane.

Garty has received more than a dozen applications for the post and plans to start speaking to candidates later this week.

“There’s been a lot of interest and that doesn’t surprise me, because it’s a big and attractive job in Essex non-league football,” said Garty.

“It’s going to be a big, hard decision but, for the time being, I feel the team is in safe hands.

“I don’t need someone to come in and steady the ship – it’s already a steady ship.

“Our situation isn’t the end of the world and I’m not going to take on the first person who comes along.

“It has to be the right person, both in the short-term and also looking ahead into the future.

“I don’t want a quick fix. I want the new man to be here for a long time.”
