MALDON and Tiptree boss Terry Spillane was pleased with his side’s win against Aveley.

Maldon and Tiptree secured an emphatic 4-1 Ryman League division one north victory at Park Drive on Tuesday night.

The result saw them bounce back from a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Chatham Town on Saturday.

Spillane said: “It was a positive win.

“I played around with the side and gave a debut to 17-year-old Michael Shaikly, who had an excellent game.

“Don’t get me wrong I put out a strong side but we don’t have anything to play for now so it lets me have a look at a few things.

“I said to the players that they are playing for pride and their places in the team next season.

“They showed that pride and we had four different goal scorers.

“And Aveley are always a tough side to face.

“But once again our home form was excellent. It’s just our away form that has let us down this season.”

Maldon face Waltham Abbey on Saturday and then travel to Harlow on Easter Monday.

Looking back to the Chatham match, Spillane said: “Chatham was one of those games and we lost to a penalty.
“It was a dull game and the pitch was horrendous.
“We like to play football and that is why our home form is so good because of our great pitch.
“But when we go away it seems our players can’t adjust and win ugly.
“Chatham were better at that than us.
“If it had been a draw I would have been the happier manager.”
