THIS week we speak to John Rahman, owner of the New Delhi Indian restaurant, in Orsett Road, Grays

Q: What do you love about Thurrock?

A: Since opening in 1994, we have built a portfolio of many loyal customers. Many have returned time and time again. The customers and people of Thurrock are great.

Q: What has kept you here?

A: I have enjoyed building my business here. We expanded in November last year and we can now cater for more people and still offer the same level of service.

We have a team of experienced staff, including chefs who work hard to ensure the dishes our customers receive are of the highest quality. We look forward to seeing regulars and meeting new customers and providing them with a new experience in Indian dining.

Q: How do you see the future for your business in the borough?

A: I’m hoping the success of our restaurant continues. It now sits in what was once two shops and has been transformed into a modern, spacious restaurant.

Q: How do you think other parts of Essex see Thurrock?

A: I think other parts know that Thurrock is a great place to live and work. There are many different types of businesses and restaurants here, a great variety.

Q: What advice would you give to people wanting to set up their own business in the borough?

A: I would advise them to have confidence and patience.

It can be challenging to start your own business, but it is good work. Thurrock is a great place to start a new business.

Q: What made you start your business here?

A: I started my business here in 1994 because I saw a gap in the market for the kind of restaurant I wished to open. I am very passionate about Indian food and thought Thurrock would be a great place to start.

Q: What involvement with the community does the restaurant have?

A: We always try to provide the community with the best in Indian food.

Q: What is your favourite bit about the Gazette?

My favourite bit about the Gazette is reading the news. I like to keep up to date with what is happening in the community.
