POLICE were called to a petrol garage in Colchester.
About four police cars and two vans were called to the BP garage at the junction of The Willows and Mersea Road shortly before 1.30pm this afternoon.
An Essex Police spokeswoman said: "Officers were near Mersea Road, Colchester, at around 1.20pm this afternoon responding to reports of concern for a person’s welfare.
"The individual is now in the care of health professionals."
Despite a number of reports on social media of an armed man being spotted at the scene, the force said no weapon was involved in the incident and no one was injured.
