TWO burnt out land rovers were discovered at a shooting club in Feering after ram-raiders stole a cash machine and reportedly fled in the vehicles.

The thieves, who had their faces covered, crashed into the wall of the Post Office in Market End, Coggeshall.

They removed the cash machine and fled from the scene in a Land Rover.

Residents took to social media after the robbery, early on Friday morning, to describe what they had seen.

Rebecca Nicholls said: “We are on West Street and my smallest dog who never usually wakes up was barking his head off at around 4am.

“We told him to be quiet as we could not hear anything.”

Bridget Charlesworth said: “This is awful. We were woken up with loads of noise as we live on Market Hill.

“We didn’t see anything from ours but heard men shouting and lorry noises.”

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “An investigation has been launched after an ATM was removed from the wall.

“We were called just before 3.15am with reports of a JCB removing the cash machine from the wall.

“Witnesses reported four suspects who had their faces covered.

“They left the scene in a Land Rover, taking the ATM with them.”

The spokesman added two burnt out Land Rovers were discovered at a shooting club off Inworth Road, Feering, at lunch time on Saturday.

She added: “We are looking to see if the vehicles are linked to the investigation.”

A Post Office spokesman said: “Post Office can confirm there was a robbery at Coggeshall Post Office on Friday.

“The people who run our Post Office branches provide important services to local communities.

“Any robbery or attempted robbery is very traumatic for the victims and we will be supporting the police in their efforts to apprehend those responsible.”
