A club has unveiled a plaque to one of its founding members.

Castle Hedingham Tennis Club was established in 1922 by the Women’s Institute who used a hall on the site and played on two grass courts.

The hut was also used by local auctioneers Balls and Balls, but in 1975 they relocated, leaving the hut redundant.

Leslie Drury aproached the owner of the land Miss Majendie of Hedingham Castle to buy it.

They sold it to him on the condition that it would be used to improve the facilities of the club.

Joint vice president Angie Jones said: “He bought the land for a very reasonable price.

“The courts have been there ever since."
