Angry residents were disgusted by rubbish strewn across verges after a prestigious cycling event.
Following the Maldon Dengie Tour, also known as Hell of the East, wrappers were found littering the roadside in Tillingham.
Former marine police officer John Williams of Grange Road collected about 30 energy gel sachets following the race on April Fools Day.
Race organiser Alan Rosnor said: “All cyclists are instructed to put these sachets into their back pocket when they have finished with them, but when you’re riding at 30mph it’s not the easiest thing to do.”
