RESIDENTS in St Lawrence are continuing their fight for the environment with another community litter pick.
Villagers will be coming together for the third organised litter pick this weekend.
The event is being organised by resident, Hana Malouf. She was motivated to get more involved in looking after the environment by the first clean up in March.
Hana said: “I am passionate about the environment, and since attending the first organised beach clean earlier in the year I have become the official litter picker in the village, cleaning the main road and park.
“I have become so aware of the extent of the rubbish on our beaches and in our marshland. I decided to take action, but realise it is too big a job for one person.
“If other people, adults and children, become aware of the litter, not just how unsightly it is, but the damage it does to the wildlife, mammals and marine life, we could educate and change the mind-set of the people who throw the rubbish and those who say it is not my problem.”
Hana is hoping that the pick up’s can become a regular event, happening fortnightly or monthly in the village.
Those taking part are meeting at the Stone Pub, Main Road, at 3pm on Sunday.
