An appeal has been made for workmen to resurface an allotment road for free.
Last month, Burnham town councillors were left aghast when quotes to resurface a 257-metre stretch of road came in up to seven times over budget.
The council is looking to resurface ‘Allotment Road’, which leads to the Arcadia Road allotment site, following a request by gardeners to make it safer.
Quotes ranged from £34,700 to £51,678, but the council had budgeted £7,000.
At last Wednesday’s town council meeting, councillor Mike Wood suggested an appeal should be made to see if anyone would volunteer to resurface the road for free.
He said: “I think we will get at least one response.
“We ought to invite any benefactors that are around who may want to pay or do it.”
Town council clerk David McNeill also added that lower quotes of £13,000 and £20,000 had been received since last month’s meeting.
