Affordable housing plan for Wickham Bishops divides opinion

Affordable housing for villagers has divided a community.

Landowner Alan Collier has applied for permission to build 27 homes on a field off Tiptree Road near Snow’s Corner, Wickham Bishops.

It follows an approach by the English Rural Housing Association, working with the parish council and Rural Community Council of Essex.

Twelve will be at an affordable rent for Wickham Bishops residents or discounted for those that want to downsize.

The parish council has supported the development, but have raised concerns about drainage, tree removal and access points.

However, a Facebook group called Save Wickham Bishops from Over-development, says the land is a unique wildflower meadow supporting a wide range of wildlife.

What a shame, Wickham Bishops is such a nice little village - always wanted to live there - but not anymore, Councils seem to go out of their way these days to destroy small communities by flooding them with strangers that have no respect for the area.

Get a sense of proportion!

This is an additional 27 houses, of which 12 will be restricted to existing residents of the village - hardly flooding the village with strangers, and not being done by the Council.

Help me please venturoboy.

What exactly constitutes a 'Stranger' in this context?
