John Humphreys bought a redundant train station for £50 and used the bricks to build his own home.
It is fairly unusual today, but 60 years ago when Mr Humphreys carried out his building project, all it took was an advert in the local newspaper and an offer on the table.
Mr Humphreys, then aged about 25, had a five acre nursery in Woodland Park, Mayland, where he was living with wife Dot "in a chicken shed."
He wanted to build a bungalow and as luck would have it, Cold Norton station was for sale.
