Maldon has been named among the most desirable places to live in the UK.
The district came 12th out of more than 400 places nationwide in the annual Halifax Quality of Life survey.
Hart in Hampshire came out on top for the second year running.
Up from 44th last time around, the Maldon district performed particularly well in the categories of education, housing, health, employment and weather.
Bob Wyness, 64, of Mill Road, Maldon, was unsurprised by the district’s high placing.
He said: “I think it’s a great place to live.
“We’ve got the best of both worlds in that you’ve got open countryside, the river, sea and history as well.”
