1:00pm Wednesday 28th November 2012 in Local News
Inspector Chris Kilgallen, of Maldon police, with cannabis seized during a previous raid
Police uncovered £60,000 of cannabis hidden inside huge storage containers during a raid on a barn on the outskirts of Maldon.
More than 300 plants, housed in silos more commonly used to store grain, were unearthed during the operation in Vicarage Lane, Mundon.
Some eight officers and a drugs dog were involved in the initial raid, before being joined by a chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear officer and a scenes of crime officer.
In total, eight silos were discovered to have been converted into “sophisticated growing rooms”.
A 49-year-old woman and 48-year-old man, both from the Maldon area, were arrested on suspicion of drug offences and released on bail until February 13.
