A COMMUNITY in Colchester is the next in line to get a makeover.

Colchester Borough Homes heading to the Greenstead estate for its next Make a Difference day.

The event will see teams from Colchester Borough Homes – along with advisors, residents and volunteers – pitching in to make improvements in the area.

The aim of the project is to give the area a clean up and encourage pride in community spaces.

The latest Make a Difference day will focus on Hawthorn Avenue and Duffield Drive and is being held on Thursday.

Works have already begun at these locations replacing sofits and facias.

Bollards are being installed in the parking areas and the communal front doors are being replaced.

But there is still more work to do.

Projects due to be undertaken on the day will include painting the drying area fencing, painting internal communal areas and clearing and painting garages.

A skip will be provided on site for any residents who wish to dispose of any unwanted items.

The team will be on site on the day from 10am to 3pm.

Throughout the day a number of DIY masterclasses will also be taking place.

They will offer a range of DIY and improvement skills for residents who wish to improve their knowledge of keeping their properties in order.

Karen Loweman, director of housing for CBH, said: “Work is already progressing well at the two locations in Greenstead and on the day the team wish to complete a number of tasks.

“The feedback we have received from the residents has enabled us to concentrate on the most important tasks that will give residents the greatest benefit.”

A series of other Make a Difference days are also in the pipeline.

They include a visit to Kersey Court in Shrub End on June 30, Chant Court in St John’s on July 28, Ladbrook Drive in Old Heath on August 25 and Mimosa Court in Greenstead on September 29.

The last visit of the year will be to Stephen Cranfield Close in Rowhedge, to take place on October 27.
