Residents who live nearby have spoken of their shock after a young man was stabbed to death in a Chelmsford park.

The man, believed to be in his late teens, was found in Oaklands Park at about 3.15pm yesterday but later died at Broomfield Hospital.

A mother who lives nearby was walking her dog past the crime scene this morning.

She asked not to be named but said the murder had left her "reeling".

She said: "I'm so shocked by it, I've got boys about that age.

"I think the time of day it happened was a shock as well, it was daylight.

"You can't imagine what the family are going through, there's a mother out there at home who won't have her boy home for Christmas.

"I'm so sad to hear about it and know it will shock the community for sure.

"As a mother my heart breaks for her and her family."

Another dog walker, who also lives nearby and wished to remain anonymous, added: "This is a big children's park, it's quite shocking.

"I saw the police helicopter hovering overhead above the park and I think I saw the air ambulance as well.

"There are always so many kids and families in the park so this is quite worrying and unnerving."

A 17-year-old boy from Chelmsford and a 19-year-old man from Maldon have been arrested this morning, on suspicion of murder.

They are currently in police custody.

Police are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to contact detectives on 101 or email scdappeals@essex.pnn.police.uk
