OBJECTORS to plans to build seven wind turbines on the Dengie have welcomed tonight's decision by councillors to oppose the project going ahead.
Pip Thorogood, chair of opposition group Siege, said the group were "tentatively happy" after members of the south eastern area planning committee upheld an officers' recommendation to refuse wind farm developers RES planning permission for the project, on Turncole Farm.
He said: "We are giving this a tentative welcome but we cannot get over enthusiastic about it, this is one step in what could be another long journey which started in 2004.
"We are in this for the long haul."
The final decision will be taken next Monday by the planning and licensing committee.
