RESIDENTS are being reminded to check their voter registration details before it is too late ahead of the next general election.

Maldon District Council has advised residents to check their electoral registration details or risk losing their vote.

The council will be contacting residents through the annual canvass by email or in the post to check details are up to date.

Paul Dodson, returning officer at Maldon District Council, said: “The annual canvass is our way of making sure that the information on the electoral register for every address is accurate.

“To make sure you don’t lose your say at the next election, look out for instructions from us. We will contact you by email or by post.

“If you don’t hear from us by the end of September, you might not be on the register. If you want to register, the easiest way is online at gov.uk/register-to-vote.”

Melanie Davidson, head of support and improvement at the Electoral Commission, said: “It’s really important that everyone who is eligible to vote is able to do so.

“We urge people to look out for updates from their local council on this year’s canvass. The council may contact residents by post or email.”
