A DRAMA society with a vision to create an inclusive theatre for everyone is preparing for an upcoming show.

The Maldon and District Dramatics Society (MADDS) is a Maldon-based musical theatre society founded by Holly Hallam and Aimee Hart.

They believe “there’s always room for theatre” and that anyone can participate - no matter their background, experience, abilities or disabilities.

The society was launched in October and has held a number of events in the district since it began.

They performed at Maldon’s Vintage Fayre evening in December with a selection of interesting and modernised Christmas carols.

They have just completed their first performance of ‘Musical MADDSness’ which is a musical variety showcase for all abilities.

The society is now working on a pantomime production of Sleeping Beauty which will be shown in Goldhanger in December.

Holly said: “Our first night was a great hit with audiences and the cast loved it.

“Our members range from experienced amateur performers, right through to those who have never set foot on stage in their life.

“Aimee and I both have graduated with musical theatre degrees and have both been a part of multiple societies across Essex and been performing for a long time.

“We wanted to give back to the community that raised us as the thespians we are today, and we have enjoyed every second of providing opportunities for our members, such as workshops with professional West End and TV individuals.”

The first read-through before auditions open is on August, 6, with two weekends of pre-audition rehearsals before audition day in Maldon on August 27.

The auditions are open to anyone. For more information and to show interest, get in contact at madds.co.uk.
