PLANNED constituency boundary changes could see part of Chelmsford join Maldon as the Government prepares a 2023 review.
The Boundary Commission for England has released its revised proposals for boundary changes next year.
The initial proposals included radical plans across Essex but would have seen the Chelmsford Galleywood ward join the Maldon constituency with the Little Baddow, Danbury and Sandon ward joining the Braintree constituency.
However, following a consultation, the commission has decided to adopt plans put forward by the Liberal Democrats.
The report by the Boundary Commission added: “Counter-proposals from the Liberal Democrats, which call for Essex to be a sub-region on its own, proposed that the Maldon constituency retain the ward of Little Baddow, Danbury and Sandon.

“This would minimise disruption from the existing constituency, as every ward in the existing constituency would be retained and there would be the single addition of the Galleywood ward.
“The Assistant Commissioners found this sufficiently persuasive, and as such we are content to propose the change in our revised proposals.”
“Around 40 representations were received regarding the proposed Chelmsford constituency, split roughly equally between those supporting and opposing the initial proposals.
“Those supporting said that the Galleywood ward is the most appropriate ward to be included in the Maldon constituency.”
