LITTER and plastic collected across Burnham will be put on display to raise awareness of keeping the town tidy.

An exhibition called The Plastic Problem will take place at Burnham Museum, in Coronation Road, after the centre teamed up with I Love Burnham volunteers.

The I Love Burnham group are a team of litter pickers who cover the Dengie area.

As part of the exhibition they have collated items they have collected and they will be displayed alongside artwork made from recycled plastic and rubbish.

Organiser for the I Love Burnham group, Katy Fosdike, said: “We have decided to do this exhibition to help raise awareness of the issue of single use plastics and littering.

“We will also be providing information on alternatives to the single-use plastics.

“We will have displays of litter found locally as well as a few art projects.”

The idea was thought up by museum volunteer Jennifer Donnelly.

Ms Fosdike added: “She approached me and asked if I would be interested in doing a collaboration between the museum and the I Love Burnham group to help raise awareness on the subject.”

The group hope to run similar events in the future and have called on people to suggest ideas.

“If anyone approaches me with any ideas of how to raise awareness then I’m more than happy to help out,” she said.

The exhibition takes place from Friday, July 27 to Tuesday, August 7.

Tickets for the exhibition are £1.50 for adults and 20p for children.
