THIS week we see how one community-spirited person stepped in to help to turn an awful incident into something a bit brighter.

The work of Maldon based artist Natalie Huntsman saw the despicable vandal’s damage to the front of a cafe transformed into a work of art.

Sophie’s Kitchen of King George’s Place had only been open for just under a year, yet they were left reeling after yobs destroyed two of their windows.

Well, as it turns out, the spirit of the Maldon community was shown to be better and stronger than that.

Ms Huntsman’s work shows that people can work their imaginations and good will to tackle a criminal act in a way which turns the damage on its head.

We hope the window can soon be back to its normal state, but the fact that visitors get something colourful to look at in its place is a great way to extend a helping hand.

When society shows us the worst it can offer, the best of us will always shine through brighter.

It goes to show whatever is thrown at our community can always, and only, make us stronger.
