A detached house could be demolished and turned into eight flats.

Brodie Property Group Ltd submitted to Maldon District Council to raze the five bedroom house to the ground and build the apartments on Spital Road, Maldon.

The application says the plans have been proposed as the existing house and garage are suffering from “acute subsidence”.

It added: “Thus this proposal ensures that this site can be better and more sustainably used to contribute to the accommodation needs of the town.”

The properties will be two bedroom properties which can accommodate three people.

The application added: “Emphasis has been placed upon providing smaller units to help meet local demand for smaller affordable properties to help people get onto the property ladder or provide a suitable ‘down sizing’ opportunity for people to reside close by to the local retail facilities and employment opportunities.”

The flats range in size from 592sqft to 688sqft.

The application added: “Maldon District Council do not have a policy relating to minimum space standards, however the apartments are efficiently designed to maximise the habitable space for a comfortable living environment.”

Maldon District Council will have the final say on the plans by April.
