A COUNCIL has stopped collecting donations for those affected by the Grenfell Tower fire in London after an overwhelming response.
Shortly before 1am today, a fire broke out in the 24 storey block of flats in London, leaving many people without home and possessions and killing at least six people.
Maldon District Council asked for donations of clothes, blankets, toiletries, toys, food, and anything else that could be spared, to be taken to London.
The response they had was far bigger than expected, and they have been able to fill two large vans full of donations to take to those in need.

The Council have now asked for no more donations to be given after the influx of items this morning.
A spokesman for the Council said: "Thank you all for your amazing support but we now have enough donations to fill at least two large vans which we will be delivering to London this morning."
