THE first images of how a controversial 75 home development in Burnham will look have been revealed.

Strutt and Parker Farms was given outline approval to build the home on land east of Pippins Road in December 2015 following a public inquiry.

Maldon District Council had rejected the plans the previous August, saying the application was poorly designed.

Councillors were also concerned about the effect it would have on the roads and traffic.

Now Matthew Homes has submitted a reserved matters application, setting out the layout and appearance of the new homes.

The planning statement said the developer had met with Maldon District Council and ward councillors ahead of submitting the plans to discuss design concepts.

It added: “As a result Matthew Homes and Thrive Architects provided MDC with further design concept options, from this MDC chose the concept they preferred.

“As a result of this consultation the layout was then revised and now forms part of the reserved matters application.”

In total 23 of the 75 homes will be affordable and will be a mix of two and three bedroom properties.

Residents had opposed proposals for the site.

Dennis Price, from Burnham Resi - dents Oppose Overdevelopment, said: “They have got a right to build there as the applicants won on appeal. We just have to hope they will build sensibly.

“We don’t think it is an ideal place to build without a considerable amount of work.”

Mr Price said residents believed major improvements were needed in the area, which is already affected by flooding.
