TWO people were treated at the scene after a driver began their weekend with a bump by smashing into a high street bollard.

The incident took place on Saturday morning, where ambulance services were called to reports of a blue Hyundai i10 that had mounted the curb and crashed into a bollard outside Specsavers on Maldon High Street.

The crash caused significant damage to the front of the car.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We received a call on January 7 at 11.16am to reports of an RTC where a car had crashed into a post on the High Street in Maldon.

"A community first responder and rapid response vehicle were sent and assessed two elderly patients.

"A man and woman both believed to be in their 80s. They had suffered no apparent injuries and were discharged at the scene."

Essex Police attended the incident, but no arrests were made.
