FIREFIGHTERS rescued a dog who was stuck in a kitchen after a house fire in Burnham.
Crews from Burnham and South Woodham Ferrers were called to the house in Winstree Road at 3.21pm yesterday afternoon.
The kitchen was heavily smoke logged and firefighters extinguished the fire by 3.39pm.
Firefighters also rescued Bertie, a 9 year old Jack Russell, who was in a cage in the kitchen.
The fire was caused by a faulty electrical point on a blender.
The resident was upstairs at the time and was alerted to the fire by the smoke alarm.
Once the scene was made safe firefighters also replaced the smoke alarm for the residents.

Sub Officer Steve Faircloth said: “Bertie’s life was saved by the fact that the smoke alarm alerted her owner to the fire.
“We are pleased to report that although Bertie suffered from smoke inhalation, after a trip to the vets and some medication, she was feeling a lot better and was even happy to pose for a photo with us once the incident was dealt with.
“Incidents like this show why it is so important to ensure you have a working smoke alarm – it could help to save any member of your family.”
