A COUNCILLOR has threatened to hold an “anniversary party” after County Hall failed to fix a number of street lights.

Conservative councillor Stephen Savage reported the faulty street lights in Fambridge Road, Maldon, in July.

Last month he vowed to actively campaign against his own party at the Essex County Council elections next year if the lights were not fixed.

Today marked two months since the lights stopped working and Mr Savage said work had still not been completed to switch them back on.

Other street lights in the road however have been fixed.

“Two thirds of the road are still without lights,” he said.

“I am looking forward to the second month anniversary [of the lights being out] on July 9.”

Mr Savage said without the street lights people were struggling to see kerbs and the side of the road.

He fears it could result in an accident if the lights are not fixed.

In August Essex Highways said there was an “underlying problem” which was causing a fuse to blow but they were doing everything possible to repair it.

An Essex Highways spokesman said: “Engineers have now isolated the faulty underground cable which is causing the problem. We are awaiting technical information which will enable us to safely dig up the cable and repair it. This is a priority task and will be carried out as soon as practical.”
