A FAMILY run cleaning company is getting ready for its grand re-opening following a fire.

K's Kleaners was gutted by smoke in March but after months of hard work it will open again on Saturday.

Karen Goodridge, who runs the Hythe Quay cleaning company with mum Jill Vernon, said: "It is crazy at the moment and we are very excited.

"We are looking forward to getting back to normal and our customers back."

Speaking about the day of the fire she said: "We were just coming up to our tenth anniversary.

"We left at about 4.30pm and had a call just before 6pm.

"The whole place was filled with smoke.

"It was spontaneous combustion from some tea towels.

"There were not any flames but the smoke meant we lost everything, our business and our lifeline for ten years."

Firefighters were alerted by a tenant who lives in a flat above the shop who smelled smoke.

From that moment they were determined not to be defeated and have spent five months working hard again to start again.

Karen added: "You just have to get on with it.

"It was difficult but we have had an awful lot of support from friends, family and our landlord has been beyond fantastic."

Other businesses rallied around to help them keep their contract work providing them with facilities to work.

"We had flowers and cards, gift vouchers for meals and everyone wanted to help," she said.

"We are a family business and cannot wait to get started again."

The firm, in Maria Court, specialises in dry and wet cleaning, using the advanced Lagoon system for professional care of delicate fabrics.

They are capable of all types of cleaning including suede, leather and they expect a rush of UGG Boots cleaning work.

K's Kleaners also run a free collection and delivery service to people's home or work.

The shop will open again on Saturday morning.
