TALES were told by torchlight as youngsters enjoyed a spooky story time for Halloween.

The event at Southminster Library was held as part of a series of half term activities.

Kids started by decorating biscuits before listening to stories in the haunted house.

The lights at the library were dimmed and the youngsters were given glowsticks.

A number of the youngsters also turned up in Halloween costume.

Janine Bailey, deputy library supervisor, said: “It went really well.

“There was 25 people booked in and they came in and we had some spooky shaped biscuits that they could ice.

“We also had pipe cleaners they could make into spiders.

“We then went over into the children’s area which we had blacked out with curtains and the children all had glow sticks.”

The youngsters were read stories written by local school children and some spooky poems.
