Pupils dug up some history with the help of a Time Team archaeologist.
Well-known Channel Four archaeologist Dr Carenza Lewis, of Time Team and Michael Wood’s Great British Story, led Year 8 and 9 pupils on a two-day dig in Southminster.
Residents opened up their gardens for more than 40 pupils from Plume, Ormiston Rivers Academy and William de Ferrers to dig 11 pits.
The aim was to help the University of Cambridge learn more about Medieval settlements and life.
