Prince Edward, eighth in line to the throne, visited a First World War aerodrome in the district yesterday.
He was shown a BE2e plane, complete with pilots in authentic Great War flying gear and examined the war memorial at the Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome.
Russell Savory, aerodrome site manager, said the prince had read up on the airfield.
He said: “Today was for the volunteers as well and recognition of what they have done, everyone has worked hard.
“Prince Edward asked interesting questions and didn’t miss a thing.
“I’m absolutely chuffed to bits, it’s good for the airfield."
