Two fire crews have been at the scene of a blaze in Woodham Mortimer.
One Maldon crew and one from Witham were called shortly before 12.15pm today.
Fifty tonnes of baled straw was alight near Oak Corner, Chelmsford Road.
Maldon watch manager Martin Cable said: "With straw, if you let it burn, it will go out a lot quicker than if you put water on it.
"The thing to do with this is to pull it apart and let the air get into it."
