Residents have mounted a campaign against a caravan site amid fears it could turn their village into the next Jaywick.
As many as 200 people have signed a petition against a proposal for 70 caravans on a field at Bradwell Marina.
Developer Strutt and Parker held a consultation event the marina’s bar last Wednesday, where many villagers raised concerns that plans would double the local population and cause congestion on the one road that leads to the remote community.
Charter boat skipper Antony Read, 46, of Trusses Road, said: “It’s too big for this area.
“It will be like Butlins or we could end up like Jaywick."
In a letter to residents, Strutt and Parker has written: “It is proposed that the caravans will provide accommodation for workers from the nearby power station (if there is still demand), but the long term use of the site will be for tourists in conjunction with the marina, and will be occupied for holiday accommodation only and will be for a seasonal period.”
