A widespread search was carried out after reports that a woman had jumped from a bridge in Maldon.
Shortly before 6.30pm yesterday, South Woodham Coastguard Rescue Team, West Mersea RNLI Inshore Lifeboat, Essex Fire Boat, Essex Police and the police helicopter carried out a search for a person who jumped from the A414 road bridge over the River Chelmer at Maldon.
According to the coastguard report “footprints were found on the shoreline indicating the person had exited the scene unaided”.
Police and ambulance crews were also at the scene.
An Essex Police spokesman has since confirmed the person jumping is known to be safe and well.
