A Maldon brewery is toasting success with its champion bitter, Captain Bob.

Mighty Oak Brewing Company’s current Champion Bitter of East Anglia, Captain Bob, has been awarded Silver in the CAMRA National Champion Beer of Britain Awards.

Captain Bob is a 3.8 per cent amber bitter named after the late Captain Bob Roberts who skippered the Thames Sailing Barge Cambria up and down the East Anglian coast and into London docks.

Mr Roberts also penned stories of the sea and many a sea shanty which are sung to this day in Essex, Suffolk and beyond.
