Four fire crews were called to the scene of a house fire that saw the roof catch completely on fire.
They were alerted to the blaze at the home, in Cullver Rise, South Woodham Ferrers, at 3.30am yesterday.
The roof was reported to be 100 per cent alight and heavily smoke-logged, with the smoke affecting two more houses.
The crews, from South Woodham Ferrers, Baddow, Rayleigh Weir and Wickford, managed to extinguish the fire by 5.20am using two hose reels and two main jets.
The cause of the fire is still unknown at this stage and the fire service will carry out an investigation.
