Maldon's cricket and rugby clubs hope to expand or could be forced to move.

They have outgrown Drapers Farm, which they lease from Maldon District Council, and want to acquire a field next to the site in Heybridge.

Maldon Rugby Football Club and Maldon Cricket Club, who first told the council about their plans in February 2012, hope to create new pitches, a training area, improve the clubhouse, extend the car park and build a new access road.

The rugby club has 400 playing members but has had to turn away some of the children who wish to join because of lack of space.

There are more than 300 cricket club members, including more than 200 children and 30 women players.
