Burnham's sport centre has been saved from possible closure after councillors decided to invest a share of up to £2million into refurbishment.
The future of Dengie Hundred Sports Centre in Burnham had until now been unclear, as Maldon District Council was considering a number of options as it discussed the leisure contract for running the centre.
It had considered moved sports facilities to Ormiston Rivers Academy - which could have meant the centre in Millfields closing - or running it without any putting any money into it.
But a council spokesman said up to £2million will now be invested in both the Blackwater Leisure Centre and Dengie Hundred Sports Centre."
