Proposed rise in Maldon parking fees could make it on a par with Chelmsford parking

Maldon and Burnham Standard: Parking fees set to rise in Maldon Parking fees set to rise in Maldon

Drivers could face a 10p increase to park in Maldon, making prices comparable with fees charged in Chelmsford.

Maldon District Council's community services committee has recommended the hourly rate increase to £1 and all other price bands rise by 10p, generating an extra £48,420 a year from car parks in White Horse Lane, Butt Lane, High Street East and Friary Fields.

Council officers had suggested a 10p rise on all bands only, which would have generated an extra £36,415 a year.

The council currently makes £553,863 a year. Charges were last increased in 2011.

If the changes are agreed, all-day parking at White Horse Lane, the most expensive car park, would cost £8.10 and £4.10 in the others.

Chelmsford City Council has four car parks charging £4.50 for more than three hours and one charging £4.

Or you can park in the centre of Witham, South Woodham Ferrers or Tiptree for free.

I parked in the Butt Lane car park yesterday (Wednesday) morning between 10.45 - 11.45, it was less than 25% full.

An absolutely moronic idea, if any thing they should reduce it, preferably to free or at least the first two hours free. Tesco and Morrisons must love MDC for the trade they put their way.

Less people visit, less parking income, put the prices up
Repeat.

I find it so hard to believe that Maldon District is "governed" by so many short-sighted mental midgets. It appears that they want to destroy the town. So many daft ideas, so little time...
