Maldon and Burnham Standard: Lollipop lady Peggy Kennedy to retire after 25 years Lollipop lady Peggy Kennedy to retire after 25 years

A school crossing warden who is always there come rain, wind or shine is putting down her lollipop for the final time.

Much-loved Peggy Kennedy, 66, of Cross Road, Maldon, has helped generations of Maldon Primary School children cross the road after starting her patrols in 1987.

After 25 years of braving the wind, snow and rain, the pensioner has decided to give up patrolling Wantz Road in favour of spending some of her well-earned retirement on holiday.

All that stands in her way is her husband, who is still working as a forklift driver in Maldon.

She said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as a lollipop lady, I have made lots of little friends.

“It’s really nice that all the children know me, I will definitely miss all the cuddles they give me."
