A PANTOMIME Society is celebrating a quarter of a century anniversary this year with a redo of the festive and funny show which started it all off.
The Maldon Pantomime Society will have two weekends of panto performances this month promising an “unforgettable show packed with laughter, music, and classic panto magic”.
Director Jamie-Leigh Royan, 35 said: “I joined in 2016 when they did Cinderella, and I have been with them ever since and it is such a family and community-oriented society.
“The King Arthur show started it in 2000, and we thought as it has been 25 years why not redo it with King Arthur again this year.”
Jamie said in this year’s King Arthur, that the three knights are “really goofy with lots of stupid humour” to go alongside songs and dancing and fooling around.
She added: “We have really concentrated on really colourful, loud, and proud, costumes and staging.
“A lot of the chorus comes from the Plume Academy, we always prioritise getting them involved, they find friends outside of school, and they always seem to love it.”
Jamie said: “A lot of pantomimes can be quite outdated, so we need to do a more updated recent version and that’s why Louise stepped in.
“She is also the choreographer – she’s amazing.”
Jamie said the pantomime is often the very first introduction to theatre to many children meaning the annual show is keen to allow children to scream, shout, and “go for it.”
Jamie added: “My favourite memory is the feeling of family, the same people come back to the family,
“It is a year around because as soon as one show finishes, the next show comes around.
Performances will take place on Friday January 17, Saturday January 18, and Friday January 24, and Saturday January with matinee performances available.
