A SOLD-out pantomime show was a success with the crew enjoying doing what they do best.

The Maldon Pantomime Society put on a performance of Jack and the Beanstalk at Maldon Town Hall, filled with lots of comedy and creativity.

More than 30 volunteers helped to put the show together, with members working on set, doing makeup, lighting and more.

The Maldon Pantomime Society was formed in 1993 and put on a show in town every January until Covid put a pause to it.

After Covid, many of the former members had moved on or were retired, however with the support of the Maldon Drama Group and the Maldon and District Dramatics Society, this year’s show was made possible.

The Maldon Drama Group was formed in 1952 and puts on two to three plays a year in the town hall.

Pantomime directors Ian McDonald, Laura McDonald, Martin Adams and Dame Tilly Trott are members of both the Maldon Pantomime Society and the Maldon Drama Group.

Actor and publicity officer for the Maldon Drama Group, Carey Brown said: “Maldon Drama Group supplied a costume advisor, Helen Rasmussen, and a Front of House team led by Linda Adair, plus actor, Scott Peters and his wife Lynn became the front and back ends of Pat the cow.

“The newly formed MADDS, Maldon and District Dramatics Society pitched in with some help with stage movement and choreography and Carol Hart with her husband Sean took on the onerous task of running the bar.

“MADDS were only formed in 2022, their main interest is musical theatre and we are all looking forward to seeing them grow.”

He added: “Every seat was sold over the four shows and feedback from the audience was terrific.

“After the final performance Maldon Pantomime Chairman David Campbell presented all the cast with commemorative plaques, a pot of magic beans and each received an individual gift of a prop from the show.

“In addition he thanked the volunteers, more than 30 of them, who made the show possible.

“This year’s cast were almost entirely new to pantomime and so full of talent and enthusiasm.

“The cast in return said how happy they were to have been a part of the Pantomime Society.”
